End of Year Stormwater Compliance

With the snow flying as December greets us, Stormwater Compliance is probably not your top concern right now, but don't let it slip your mind completely! As the year draws to an end, make sure your department is caught up. 

Annual Employee Training

Municipal employees are to receive annual training to satisfy the MS4 permit requirements as outlines by the Ohio EPA. To satisfy this requirement, JSWCD offers various free trainings; both in-person and web based.

Online Training allow for individuals or groups to watch on their own time. Be sure to complete the online attendance form attached to the video -or- use the Employee Training Sign-In sheet below

Annual MS4 Reporting

December 31st ends the reporting year for MS4 activity. In January, all MS4 co-permittees will receive their information request form. This form covers the following topics:

Catch Basins & Culverts

  • Total number of catch basins that were cleaned.
  • Total number of culverts that were cleaned.
  • Amount Collected (tons) and Disposal Location
  • Number of New Catch Basins Installed (each)
  • Amount of New Culvert Pipe installed (feet)
Salt Storage & Application
  • Total amount of road salt applied (tons)
  • Is road salt stored under cover
  • Number of NEW salt storage buildings
Street Sweeping
  • Total miles of curbed streets that were swept
  • Total amount collected (tons)
  • Disposal location
Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance & Fluid Disposal
  • Where does basic maintenance occur
  • Where does more complex maintenance occur (garage/contractor)
  • How were waste fluids disposed of
Ditch Maintenance
  • Total length of ditch that was inspected, cleaned, and/or repaired and properly stabilized (feet or miles)
Chemical Application
  • Pesticide & fertilizer application

  • Training type
  • Attendance Records
Facility Inspections
  • Frequency 

Salt Smarter 

 The plow trucks are hitting the road, and so is the salt. Reduce salt this winter by calibrating equipment, knowing proper application rates, and adjusting snow routes.
