Education. Conservation. Exploration.
The Preserves of Jefferson County is a collection of properties owned & operated by the Jefferson Soil & Water Conservation District promoting education, conservation, and exploration. Each property of the Preserves is unique in its own features - the history of the property, the flora and fauna unique to the land, or the various trails that visitors can embark upon.

"It is an incalculable added pleasure to any one's sum of happiness if he or she grows to know, even slightly and imperfectly, how to read and enjoy the wonder-book of nature."President Theodore Roosevelt
Celebrating the Strength of America's Living Landscapes.

Since 2023, the District has been working with world-renowned landscape ethicist, author, and photographer Rick Darke to help guide the vision of the Preserves properties.
Rick's extensive experience has assisted the District in its efforts to help these landscapes thrive and coexist in a modern world where the industrial past and heritage of the area is embraced rather than erased.
Stay tuned as the District works with Rick to design these properties in a way that preserves the unique history of the Appalachian Ohio region and also creates beautiful and serene places for people to recreate, learn, explore, and come together at a common crossing!
